About The Position

The Arizona Game and Fish Department manages fish and wildlife in Arizona and, under the authority of the Arizona Game and Fish Commission, creates and implements scientific methods and regulations to effectively manage fish and wildlife habitat via conservation, enforcement, hunting, fishing, watercraft and off-highway vehicle recreation, and shooting sports. This position is for the Ben Avery Shooting Facility, a 5-Star rated, 1,650-acre facility and City of Phoenix Point of Pride. The Shooting Range Assistant will work on the premier Rifle/Pistol range, helping to provide a safe, world-class experience for over 240,000 annual visitors. The role involves working in a dynamic, high-energy environment and getting involved in competitions, introductory programs, and conservation efforts.

Requirements

  • Valid Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Must legally be able to possess a firearm under 18 U.S. Code § 922(g).
  • Pass a pre-employment medical exam (includes blood lead/zinc, hearing test).
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to interact and work with a diverse variety of customers, user groups, and employees.
  • A safety mindset and be prepared to enforce range safety rules equally at all times.
  • Possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
  • Must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Enforce range rules rigorously, ensuring a safe, family-friendly environment.
  • Interact with diverse shooters, providing courteous service at our high-volume, 67-table range.
  • Maintain the range, assist in setting up competitions, and support staff, ensuring premium conditions.
  • Observe public shooting and ensure a safe and family-friendly range experience for all customers.
  • Perform daily maintenance tasks to include emptying trash cans, sweeping brass, and assisting in the care of landscape and other facility maintenance/custodial duties.
  • Assist range staff in set-up and preparation of the ranges, introductory shooting programs, shooting competitions, and other shooting sports activities throughout the season.
