About The Position

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment. This role involves studying shipping lists and past-due reports to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods to meet schedules. The position oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments, contacts carriers for freight pick-up, and inspects material handling equipment. It also involves maintaining vehicle maintenance reports, directing the movement of shipments, posting weight and shipping charges, preparing bills of lading, and issuing instructions. The role includes studying and standardizing procedures to improve efficiency, maintaining harmony among workers, resolving grievances, preparing composite reports, adjusting errors and complaints, maintaining records of oil-impregnated parts, and reordering shipping supplies to ensure customer specifications are met.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Studies shipping lists and past-due reports to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
  • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments.
  • Contacts carriers for freight pick-up.
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel.
  • Maintains vehicle maintenance report.
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving to storage and work areas.
  • Posts weight and shipping charges.
  • Prepares bills of lading.
  • Issues written and oral instructions.
  • Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of subordinates.
  • Maintains harmony among workers and resolves grievances.
  • Prepares composite reports from individual reports of subordinates.
  • Adjusts errors and complaints.
  • Maintains records of oil impregnated parts by code to verify parts are good before shipping.
  • Reorders the shipping supplies.
  • Ensures customer shipping specifications are met.
  • Directly supervises employees in the Shipping & Receiving Department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
