About The Position

Smith Equipment is looking for a highly motivated team member to support business cell functions and operations within shipping and receiving. They will accurately store, issue, and move materials into and out of stockroom locations. Maintain accurate records of inventory and shipping transactions. They will also need to receive goods, inspect for transportation damage, count, process receipts, prepare shipments going to external subcontractors, type and process shipping orders and bill of ladings. The receiver would maintain records of finished goods box inventory and receiving transactions. Major Areas of Accountability Packages, weighs, and prepares appropriate transportation documentation. Stocks finished goods into preassigned bin locations. Operates a variety of packaging and shipping machines as necessary. Evaluates inventory of packaging material and advises lead person if replenishments become necessary. Inspects products for aesthetic specifications before shipment. Supports cycle counting by accurately counting materials utilizing electronic/manual scales or hand counts. Investigates errors and resolves as required. Enter information into the database system. Completes documentation and maintains records as required. Upon receipt of goods, inspects for transportation damage, counts, and processes receipt, unloads freight trucks as required. Work with personnel for delivery of received goods to locations. Help prepare appropriate transportation documentation for Smith products to customers. Evaluates inventory of packaging material and advises Purchasing Agent if replenishments become necessary. Enter all items received into the computer, print receiving tickets and receiving reports, and close completed purchase orders. Support bin location system. Operates forklift as required. Ensures that safe work procedures are followed and that proper safety equipment is used when required. Seeks and recommends ways to eliminate potential quality problems to improve procedures and methods, and to increase department productivity using problem solving techniques. Performs other work as apparent or assigned. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No allergies to oils, solvents or solutions.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry and maneuver 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to stand all day.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a cooperative and team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbal/written) effectively with customers, suppliers and other employees.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret all applicable blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
  • Accurate math/counting skills.
  • Proficient computer skills required.
