Shipping & Receiving Material Handler
About The Position
The Shipping & Receiving Material Handler makes inventory transfers in a computer system and moves materials, including raw materials and finished products, in shipping areas using electric, gas, propane, or diesel forklifts and tractors. The position supports safe, organized shipping and receiving operations and works to reduce risk to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable), with the goal of preventing injury, illness, and negative impacts to employees, property, the environment, and the community. This role works a day-shift 2-2-3 rotation from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM: one week on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and the following week on Wednesday and Thursday. The position is in an industrial manufacturing plant and involves handling materials, operating equipment, managing inventory, and supporting production. No supervisory responsibilities are assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three months of work-related experience; an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be considered.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, production instructions, and safety manuals.
- Experience using hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Ability to complete simple forms and understand simple written instructions.
- Basic math skills, including arithmetic involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods and to lift, move, and handle materials safely.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to meet production goals and deadlines.
- Experience maintaining a clean and organized work area.
- Willingness to work different shifts, overtime, or weekends when required.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of a heavy manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting or carrying heavy materials, often over 50 pounds.
- Ability to tolerate heat, cold, loud noise, dust, vibration, slippery surfaces, and other industrial environmental conditions; use required PPE and maintain physical agility, coordination, and situational awareness.
Responsibilities
- Follow safety procedures for shipping and receiving operations and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Operate forklifts and/or overhead cranes to load and unload materials and store them safely and efficiently.
- Make inventory transfers in the computer system.
- Monitor inventory levels, perform cycle counts, and resolve discrepancies.
- Run shipping reports, including ship confirms, bills of lading, and pick slips.
- Process intercompany transfers as requested by sales.
- Inspect finished products for quality and stage materials.
- Support production and perform other shipping and production duties as needed.
- Train new employees and collaborate with production supervisors.
