Shipping & Receiving Loader
About The Position
The Shipping & Receiving Loader is responsible for various tasks related to the movement and organization of materials. This includes operating hand-held bar-coding units, reading work orders, loading and unloading materials from tractor trailers, and ensuring proper bracing for transit. The role also involves verifying shipments against documentation, conveying materials to designated areas, and performing inventory inspections. Additionally, the loader operates industrial trucks or electric hoists and is expected to train and mentor lower-level loaders. This position requires adherence to safety protocols and maintaining a clean work environment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fork Lift Certification
- Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Perform all work safely and with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.
- Maintain their designated work spaces in a clean, safe and timely manner in compliance with the plants THM/Safety policy.
- Regularly use hands and fingers to handle or feel and able to talk and hear.
- Frequently stand and walk.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Responsibilities
- Use hand held bar-coding units and understand all functions required in the bar-coding process.
- Read work order or follow oral instructions to ascertain materials or pallets to be moved or pulled for shipment.
- Load and unload materials onto or from tractor trailers.
- Load pallets onto truck and inspect strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
- Verify materials loaded or unloaded against work order or bill of lading.
- Convey materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Make partial racks when necessary to complete shipping order.
- Organize and randomly inspect inventory on yard.
- Operate industrial truck or electric hoist safely and accurately to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
- Train and mentor lower level loaders.
