Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED, and equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to perform but not limited to the following tasks, be familiar with and able to interpret packing slips, enter into the computer the correct information, to acknowledge receipt of the goods into the purchase order and processing database.
  • Must be able to fill out bills of lading and be familiar with various forms that are used and required by the major freight carriers.
  • Must be capable of estimating weight and use that information to calculate the cost of shipping.
  • Must be familiar with proper packaging methods and able to interpret visual aids used to convey specific packaging requirements.
  • Must be familiar with the most common material handling equipment including fork lift and over head crane.
  • Verifying U.S. person status or obtaining any necessary authorizations.
  • Answering certain questions for export control purposes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with UPS/FEDEX online software is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Moving jobs, products between plants in a timely fashion, as needed.
  • Receiving all required documentation and certifications of materials and sending them to the appropriate department.
  • Documenting size and weight of shipment.
  • Addressing where shipment will be delivered or picked up from.
  • Performing daily Hi-Lo and overhead crane inspections.
  • Arranging pick-up by the shipping carrier specified on the customer’s purchase order and/or shipping instructions.
  • Ensuring someone is always available to answer the Shipping and Receiving door.
  • Lifting or moving materials and finished products using overhead cranes / hi-lo.
  • Setting up outgoing scrap shipments.
  • Ensuring each scrap metal type is weighed and in their separate, designated bins.
  • Wrapping each pallet / weldment securely for required transport.
  • Keeping an adequate supply of shipping and shop materials.
  • Forwarding a requisition for shipping materials to the Department Supervisor for approval and continuity.
  • Maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and following required safety regulations.
  • Maintaining safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Maintaining continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Documenting actions by completing production time sheets.
  • Other duties as assigned.
