About The Position

This role involves packing and re-packing a wide variety of materials, ensuring they meet release order requirements by verifying condition codes. The Shipping Packer determines the appropriate packing method based on documentation and specific instructions, including military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements for hazardous materials (HAZNAT) and radioactive materials (RAD). This position reports to a designated Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) months general work experience which will demonstrate ability to perform requirements of position.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • May substitute experience for education at the rate of one year of general experience for one year of high school.
  • Must be able to obtain license to use MHE within 30 days of selection.
  • Packers who process material requiring HAZMAT Certification must be able to successfully pass training requirements.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances, stoop, bend, kneel, walk, have full dexterity, and correctable vision.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, examines, classifies, accepts, rejects, and disposes of material as per DLA regulations.
  • Ensures material is properly preserved/packaged/marked/labeled in accordance with Military Standards prior to releasing material to storage or shipping.
  • Selects proper size container and cushioning from available stock to ensure protection against damage.
  • Conducts basic inspection/examination procedures for material.
  • Reads specifications and photographs as/if required in DLA contract.
  • May operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) in combination with packing duties to load material on and off of skids, pallets, stands and vehicles.
  • Receives data from and inputs data to DSS and other automated systems in performance of duties and prepares basic reports.
  • Counts, weights, records data, prepares and applies tags/labels.
  • Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Enforces a safety culture whereby all employees have the responsibility for continuously developing and maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Conforms to the Amentum Quality Policy and carries out job activities in compliance with applicable Amentum Quality System documents and customer contracts.
  • Reads, understands and implements the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.
