About The Position

The Shipping Manager is responsible for leading and managing all shipping, receiving, warehouse, and transportation activities to ensure customer orders are shipped accurately, safely, and on time. This position oversees the Shipping Supervisor and shipping team while driving operational excellence, inventory accuracy, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Shipping Manager develops departmental goals, establishes processes and procedures, manages performance, and ensures compliance with customer, company, and regulatory requirements. This role serves as the primary leader for all shipping and receiving operations and partners closely with Production, Customer Service, Scheduling, Purchasing, and Quality teams to support business objectives. The Shipping Manager directs all aspects of shipping and receiving operations, including carrier management, inventory control, order fulfillment, customer shipping compliance, receiving activities, warehouse organization, and employee development. This position is responsible for establishing departmental priorities, monitoring operational performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing processes that support safety, quality, service, and cost objectives. The Shipping Manager provides leadership and guidance to the Shipping Supervisor and shipping personnel while maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Five to seven years of shipping, warehouse, logistics, or distribution experience required.
  • Minimum three years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping, receiving, inventory control, transportation, and warehouse operations.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Amtech, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience managing supervisors and hourly employees preferred.
  • Experience with EDI systems, customer portals, and transportation management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage the Shipping Supervisor and shipping/receiving personnel.
  • Establish departmental goals, priorities, and performance expectations.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop shipping team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and development plans.
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, cross-training, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee all shipping and receiving operations to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Ensure accurate and timely shipment of customer orders.
  • Manage TL, LTL, parcel, expedited, and customer-routed shipments.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with transportation providers and freight carriers.
  • Monitor carrier performance, freight costs, and service levels.
  • Oversee shipment scheduling, dock activities, and transportation planning.
  • Ensure customer routing guides, vendor compliance requirements, and shipping specifications are followed.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle count programs and inventory controls.
  • Ensure proper receiving, inspection, storage, and movement of materials.
  • Monitor warehouse organization, space utilization, and material flow.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Production to support inventory availability and production requirements.
  • Oversee reconciliation of inventory discrepancies and corrective actions.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for shipping-related customer concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with customer portals, EDI requirements, Walmart Retail Link, and other customer systems.
  • Review shipping performance and customer scorecards.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Project Management, and Operations teams to support customer expectations.
  • Develop, track, and analyze key departmental performance metrics, including: On-Time Delivery, Inventory Accuracy, Freight Costs, Shipping Productivity, Receiving Performance, Carrier Performance, Safety Metrics.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance customer service.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective action initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement and operational excellence programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements.
  • Lead safety initiatives and conduct regular department audits.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper training and certification for forklift operators and warehouse personnel.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Partner with Production, Scheduling, Purchasing, Quality, Customer Service, and Operations leadership to support business objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and operational reports to senior leadership.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Support after-hours shipping and customer requirements as business needs dictate.
  • Maintain professional, customer-facing communication through email and phone correspondence with customers, carriers, and internal departments.
  • Support Walmart Retail Link and other customer portal activities as needed.
