About The Position
The Shipping Lead will be responsible for managing daily shipping operations, ensuring quality packaging, training staff, and serving as a liaison between office and floor teams. This role requires strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to operate in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The lead will also be expected to backfill various shipping roles as needed to maintain operational efficiency and meet departmental goals.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a comparable shipping or logistics role.
- Forklift certification or demonstrable forklift operation experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (email, in-person, and English proficiency).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Outlook and Excel.
Responsibilities
- Master visual-management tools for assigning and tracking orders, prioritizing work, and managing holds.
- Serve as the main liaison between office and floor teams, translating daily priorities into actionable tasks.
- Escalate complex issues to supervisors/managers for validation before packaging or shipment.
- Coordinate cross-departmentally with other leads and supervisors to resolve roadblocks.
- Demonstrate strong multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ensure thorough knowledge of packaging standards for parcel, combo, LTL, and FTL shipments.
- Identify and recommend packaging adjustments for special-needs shipments.
- Partner with supervisors/managers to develop strategies for handling non-standard shipments.
- Train staff across parcel desk, combo station, and freight packaging areas.
- Stay current on procedural updates and effectively disseminate information to the team.
- Proactively suggest process improvements and identify training needs.
- Acquire comprehensive knowledge of all floor-level shipping roles.
- Flexibly backfill positions as needed to sustain daily operations and meet departmental goals.
