About The Position

The Shipping Lead is responsible for performing various shipping and receiving tasks. This includes preparing documents, verifying quantities for shipment, serving as a backup to the Shipping Supervisor, and collaborating with the Shipping Supervisor and other departments daily. The role involves ensuring the safety and cleanliness of the work area at the start of each shift, operating a forklift safely and efficiently, and maintaining the forklift through daily inspections. The lead will plan daily runs for outbound customer orders, arrange carrier pickups, and prepare necessary shipping documents, including bills of lading and export documentation. A key part of the role is verifying outgoing products against customer orders for accuracy in quantity, destination, and routing, and ensuring products are loaded safely and correctly. The lead is also responsible for ensuring the quality of shipped products, proper pallet condition, and trailer cleanliness. Additionally, the position involves receiving and unloading incoming materials, comparing packing slips with purchase orders, inspecting for damages, and notifying the supervisor of any issues. The lead will manage bills of lading, run daily reports, file documents, conduct physical inventory counts, and assist with warehouse duties as a backup. Entering work orders and notifications into the system, receiving into HRMS and SAP with accuracy, and leading, guiding, and training other employees are also core responsibilities. The role requires end-of-shift cleanup and maintaining a clean and safe work environment throughout the shift, entering maintenance work orders in SAP, and adhering to all company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or state registered GED preferred.
  • Must be forklift operation certified.
  • At least 2 years of forklift experience.
  • Stable work history.
  • Basic computer skills, along with knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Ability to direct and train employees.
  • Ability to communicate and work well with others.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to work overtime and some Saturdays when scheduled.
  • Standing and walking are required for most of the shift.
  • Noise level in the work environment is loud.
  • Temperature in plant can fluctuate due to outside temperatures.
  • Physical activity requires handling an average weight of 10-15 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds.
  • Employees are around moving mechanical parts while performing duties of this job.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various shipping and receiving tasks.
  • Prepare documents and verify quantities for shipment.
  • Serve as backup to the Shipping Supervisor.
  • Work closely with the Shipping Supervisor and other departments.
  • Check area for safety, cleanliness, and mechanical problems at shift start.
  • Operate forklift safely and efficiently (must be qualified).
  • Maintain forklift daily (complete and document daily inspection) and report needed repairs.
  • Operate forklift and other equipment like pallet jacks, shrink wrap machine, and bander.
  • Plan daily runs for local outbound customer orders (works with shipping supervisor).
  • Call carriers (LTL or TL) for pickup & PRO freight as needed.
  • Prepare computer generated or manual bills of lading.
  • Prepare documentation for export orders.
  • Check products to be shipped against customer orders for accuracy.
  • Ensure products are loaded onto trailer in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ensure quality product is being shipped out, banding is good, load tags are placed properly and pallets are in good condition.
  • Clean out trailers when necessary.
  • Receive and unload incoming materials.
  • Compare information on packing slip with PO.
  • Inspect shipment for damages, record, and notify shipping supervisor.
  • Account for all bills of lading, run daily report, and file documents.
  • Conduct physical inventory counts at plant and warehouse as needed.
  • Help as a backup to warehouse duties (shipping, receiving, maintains rotation on items).
  • Enter work orders/notifications into system.
  • Receive into HRMS and SAP and ensure accuracy.
  • Lead, guide, and train employees performing related work.
  • End of shift cleanup.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment throughout shift.
  • Enter maintenance work orders in SAP.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures, including safety and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Perform other duties as required and assigned by immediate supervisor.
