About The Position

The Shipping Clerk performs the physical or derivative tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, storing, distributing and order fulfillment of merchandise, products, materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Checks goods received and for distribution against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of goods and rejects unsatisfactory items. Packages and prepares products and merchandise for final shipment and posts weights and shipping charges. Lifts heavy items and may operate a forklift. Prepares and maintains records of merchandise shipped. Reviews customer orders, examines, stocks and distributes merchandise, products and materials in inventory warehouses, distribution centers or manufacturing lines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to interface with management regarding duties and future development of department
  • Minimum of two years documented distribution/ warehouse experience in an outbound or inbound function
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common shipping reports and regulatory documents regarding shipping
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to lower-level management
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and averaging
  • Some experience with UPS World Ship online with the ability to learn more

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate all necessary distribution equipment
  • Train coworkers on all necessary distribution equipment
  • Understand and use of bar code scanner for picking orders, inventory look up, inventory transfers, and order management
  • Process UPS, Fed-Ex, and DHL shipments
  • Check orders for accuracy
  • Properly pack basic packages per work instructions
  • Perform special product packaging requirements
  • Run packages through shipping station
  • Perform international and domestic shipments via small parcel carrier
  • Perform international and domestic freight quotes
  • Handle temperature-controlled items (pull, box, and ship)
  • Handle Hazmat shipments
  • Complete AES/ITN number for UPS shipments
  • Pick and process pallet orders (LTL)
  • Properly layer products, face out product labels, and label cases
  • Pack loose items properly
  • Pick and process full truckload (TL) / large orders
  • Understand and adhere to special distributor requirements (expiration dates, case quantity requirements, lot separation, palletizing requirements, keeping same items together, packing and labelling of gravity flow items)
  • Pack all loose or easily damaged items properly
  • Print address labels for multiple pallet shipments
  • Understand and use of heat treated pallets for international shipments
  • Adhere to customer packaging requirements for international shipments
  • Prepare commercial invoices and international packing lists
  • Package and label gravity flow items
  • Ensure no partial cases or split lots are shipped
  • Adhere to expiration date requirements
  • Print address labels for multiple pallet shipments
