About The Position

The Shipping Clerk performs the physical or administrative tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, storing, distributing and order fulfillment of merchandise, products, materials, parts, supplies and equipment. Checks goods received and for distribution against purchase orders or invoices, maintains records of goods and rejects unsatisfactory items. Packages and prepares products and merchandise for final shipment and posts weights and shipping charges. Lifts heavy items and may operate a forklift. Prepares and maintains records of merchandise shipped. Reviews customer orders, examines, stocks and distributes merchandise, products and materials in inventory warehouses, distribution centers or manufacturing lines.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to interface with management regarding duties and future development of department.
  • Minimum of two years documented distribution/ warehouse experience in an outbound or inbound function.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common shipping reports and regulatory documents regarding shipping.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Ability to effectively present information to lower-level management.
  • Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and averaging.
  • Some experience with UPS World Ship online with the ability to learn more.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate all necessary distribution equipment
  • Train coworkers on all necessary distribution equipment
  • Understand and utilize a bar code scanner for picking orders, inventory look up, inventory transfers, and order management.
  • Process small parcel shipments via UPS, Fed-Ex, and DHL, including checking orders for accuracy, completing paperwork, and properly packing basic packages.
  • Perform special product packaging requirements.
  • Run packages through the shipping station.
  • Perform international and domestic shipments via small parcel carrier.
  • Perform international and domestic freight quotes.
  • Pull, box, and ship temperature-controlled items.
  • Handle Hazmat shipments.
  • Complete AES/ITN number for UPS shipments.
  • Pick pallet orders accurately, ensuring proper product layering, face out product labels, case count labelling, and packing of loose items.
  • Check pallet orders for accuracy.
  • Pick large orders accurately, understanding special distributor requirements such as expiration dates, case quantity requirements, lot separation, palletizing requirements, keeping same items together, and packing and labelling of gravity flow items.
  • Check large orders for accuracy.
  • Pack all loose or easily damaged items properly.
  • Complete paperwork properly for large orders.
  • Print address labels for multiple pallet shipments.
  • Understand the use of heat-treated pallets for international shipments.
  • Prepare customer packaging requirements, commercial invoices, and international packing lists.
  • Adhere to special customer requirements, including gravity flow items packaged and labelled, no partial cases, no split lots, and expiration date requirements.
  • Print address labels for multiple pallet shipments.
