About The Position

This position is responsible for accurately billing out orders, ensuring drivers are checked in and released with appropriate paperwork, and assisting in shipping products. The role involves verifying load documentation and diagrams for billing, generating bills of lading, and completing load information in appropriate forms and databases. The Shipping Clerk also collects and prints necessary papers for shipping and receiving, gathers information for reports and data entry, and ensures drivers have proper paperwork before load release. The position establishes when pre-shipment is needed and maintains information regarding trailer issues and shortage requests/releases, notifying shuttle drivers when trailers need to be moved. Additionally, the role keeps the schedule and lot layout updated and may schedule receiving and inbound appointments. The Shipping Clerk participates as a team member, contributing to team concepts, programs, and policies, and fostering cohesiveness. They are expected to be familiar with Simmons' operating systems and their role in supporting them, communicating concerns and improvement ideas. The position also involves performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer to include spreadsheets.
  • Prior experience with inventory.
  • Experience in a warehouse or food production is a plus.
  • Be able to work on feet during shifts.
  • Bending, squatting, stooping, working in elevated areas, climbing stairs and ladders.
  • Be able to lift/move 3 - 20 pound bags of product at waist level.
  • Be able to work in a cool, wet and noisy environment.
  • Will use head covering, ear plugs, skid resistant steel toe shoes, and any other protective equipment as needed or required.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all load documentation and diagrams are verified and accurate for billing purposes.
  • Partnering with supervisor and QA to assist with releasing loads.
  • Generating bill of lading based on documentation and load diagrams.
  • Completing load information on the appropriate forms and databases.
  • Collecting and printing necessary papers for shipping and receiving.
  • Collecting information to produce reports and data entry.
  • Ensuring drivers have proper paperwork before load is released.
  • Establishing when pre-shipment is needed.
  • Maintaining information and communication regarding all trailer issues as well as shortage requests/releases.
  • Notifying shuttle drivers when trailers need to be pulled or placed at dock.
  • Keeping schedule and lot layout up to date.
  • Scheduling receiving and inbound appointments.
  • Participating as a member of the team, fostering strong cohesiveness.
  • Accepting responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues.
  • Actively looking for ways, and reinforcing actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Performing other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
