About The Position

The Shipper Receiver operates an industrial-sized forklift to receive and transfer product, supplies, and materials to the appropriate area while meeting customer regulations and specifications. This role involves storing and retrieving goods, rotating stock, noting and reporting damaged items, and recording inventory changes. The operator prepares products for shipment, loads and unloads trailers, and uses a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking. Responsibilities also include performing minor equipment service, conducting safety inspections, changing batteries or fuel bottles, and maintaining a clean work area. The position requires creating product labels, understanding lot numbers and expiration dates, completing reports, and using basic tools. Operators must be proficient in maneuvering forklifts in tight spaces while ensuring a safe work zone. Team participation, adherence to Simmons Operating systems principles, and performing other duties as necessary are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

  • Operates an industrial sized forklift.
  • Uses a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift.
  • Must be able to back forklift up safely which requires turning the neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Will be required to work in extreme temperatures both hot and cold, wet, dry, dusty environment.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Work in temperature extremes.
  • Safety Glasses, Rubber Gloves, Rubber boots, Rubber Apron, Hearing Protection, and any other PPE as required in appropriate area.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar.
  • Knowledge of FIFO practices.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time.
  • Knowledge of RFGEN and JDE.

Responsibilities

  • Store and retrieve goods in the storage area.
  • Rotate stock so oldest materials are used first.
  • Note and report any damaged cartons, crates, or containers.
  • Record items added or removed from inventory.
  • Prepare products for shipment by retrieving designated products and ensuring proper loading and sealing.
  • Store product using an industrial forklift and use a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory.
  • Operate a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers, adhering to guidelines.
  • Perform minor service of equipment and complete written daily safety inspections.
  • Identify and report noted problems to the supervisor for further inspection and repair.
  • Change batteries or fuel bottles, refuel forklift, or troubleshoot repairs as needed.
  • Maintain the work area, dock, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Adhere to storage design principles and recommend improvements.
  • Create product labels for inventory purposes.
  • Read and understand lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules.
  • Complete various reports daily and enter required information into a computer program efficiently and timely.
  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklift in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone.
  • Participate as a member of the Team, fostering cohesiveness and resolving issues.
  • Maintain familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems and communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
