About The Position

Operates an industrial sized forklift to receive and transfer product, supplies, and materials to appropriate area while meeting customer regulations and specifications. The Operator is responsible for storing and retrieving goods in the storage area of the workplace, rotating stock so oldest materials are used first, and noting and reporting any damaged cartons, crates or containers. They will also record items added or removed from inventory. This role prepares products for shipment by retrieving designated products and ensuring they are properly loaded and sealed correctly. The Shipper Receiver uses an industrial forklift and a handheld scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking to maintain accurate inventory. They work from written or verbal instructions, operating a forklift to pick up, move, load, and unload product on or from trailers while meeting department, facility, company, and regulatory guidelines. The position also involves performing minor service of equipment, completing written daily safety inspections, and identifying and reporting problems to the supervisor. Responsibilities include changing batteries or fuel bottles, refueling forklifts, or troubleshooting repairs. The role requires maintaining a clean and orderly work area, dock, and equipment, adhering to storage design principles, and recommending improvements. Creating product labels for inventory purposes, reading and understanding lot numbers, expiration dates, ingredient lists, and production schedules, and completing various reports daily and entering required information into a computer program efficiently are also key duties. The Shipper Receiver uses basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses, and consolidates partial pallets as directed. Operators must be able to maneuver forklifts in tight spaces while maintaining a safe work zone. The role involves participating as a member of the Team, fostering cohesiveness, and supporting team concepts, programs, and policies. Familiarity with Simmons' established operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) is expected, along with understanding the responsibility to maintain this familiarity and communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Other duties as necessary in support of business objectives may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Operates an industrial sized forklift.
  • Uses a hand held scan gun/RFGEN for lot tracking.
  • Works from written or verbal instructions.
  • Performs minor service of equipment.

  • Must be able to climb on and off of the forklift.
  • Must be able to back forklift up safely which requires turning the neck and body in the opposite direction.
  • Must be able to lift and stack up to 75 lbs from floor to crown.
  • Must be able to sit and walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds multiple times daily.
  • Requires Safety Glasses, Rubber Gloves, Rubber boots, Rubber Apron, Hearing Protection, and any other PPE as required.
  • Knowledge of Julian calendar.
  • Knowledge of FIFO practices.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of military time.
  • Knowledge of RFGEN.
  • Knowledge of JDE.

Responsibilities

  • Use basic tools such as wrenches, tape measures, scales, air and water hoses.
  • Consolidate partial pallets as directed by the production supervisor.
  • Maneuver forklift in tight spaces, while maintaining a safe work zone.
