About The Position

The Shift Supervisor provides responsible supervision of the administrative and operational security activities and staff on a specific shift in a facility. The role directly supervises and manages security staff and inmates/residents during the shift, provides adequate staffing in supervised areas, and fills in as needed during periods of short staffing. The Shift Supervisor participates in recruiting, hiring, and orienting staff, addresses other staffing needs, makes recommendations concerning personnel matters, and assists in the effective management of facility resources.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in a criminal justice field or another acceptable related field, including two years in a supervisory capacity; additional education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
• Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training.
• Where applicable, a commissioned security officer license in the state of employment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of correctional facility management practices and principles, pertinent corrections laws, rules and regulations, and the principles and practices of supervision and training.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
