About The Position

The Shift Supervisor Sawmill oversees production of quality lumber in a safe and efficient manner. The position coordinates with operators to ensure machines are operating correctly, addresses problems and questions, and works with the Maintenance Supervisor on maintenance issues and work orders. The supervisor monitors lumber quality, employee safety and training, prepares production reports at the end of each shift, and performs additional assignments as directed by management.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
3–4 years of experience in the lumber mill field.
Excellent computer skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Excellent problem-solving skills.
Strong supervisory skills.
Background in sawmill production.
Background in maintenance.
Working knowledge of sawmill equipment.
Knowledge of a quality control program.
Ability to remain alert and concentrate for long periods of time.

Responsibilities

Work with operators to verify machines are operating correctly and address problems or questions.
Review maintenance issues with the Maintenance Supervisor and write work orders as needed.
Prepare production reports at the end of each shift.
Ensure lumber from all machine centers meets quality standards.
Ensure employees follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
Train and certify employees for their job tasks.
Perform individual assignments as directed by management.
Maintain the professional competence, ethical integrity, knowledge, and skill necessary to perform assigned responsibilities satisfactorily.
