About The Position

The Shift Supervisor/Operations Manager facilitates daily shelter operations at Jamaica Women’s Employment Shelter, a transitional shelter for women experiencing homelessness who are employed or deemed employable and referred by the New York City Department of Homeless Services (DHS). The position oversees program services, customer service, staffing, facility security and safety, maintenance, cleaning, fire safety, and community relations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• One year of relevant experience working in a similar capacity in a social service setting.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Security certifications required.
• Obtain Fire Safety (F-80) certification within three months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Supervise delivery of program services, including intake, bed assignments, case management services, distribution of client mail, lockers, meal cards, and medication.
• Ensure optimal customer service is provided to clients.
• Ensure recreation activities are occurring.
• Ensure the facility is adequately staffed at all times.
• Work with DHS PD to ensure the daily security and safety of the facility.
• Supervise facility maintenance, cleaning staff, and fire safety.
• Manage community relations and communicate with relevant authorities as needed.
• Perform related tasks as needed.
