Requirements

  • Each employee must have a physical examination and tuberculin test performed by a physician. The tests are to be completed (with results) within seven (7) days after hire (unless regulations stipulate completion before employment). If the exams are not completed within the timeframe, the employee will be placed on suspension until they are completed.
  • The Department of Social Services (DSS) licensing agency requires that fingerprint livescan and a background check be submitted for the purpose of conducting a criminal record review. The DSS will issue an approval or denial according to the criminal clearance reports. Approval must be obtained in order to retain employment.
  • Willing to submit to any drug screening as requested or required.
  • All MedTechs must keep their FIRST-AID certification current.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and older.
  • Must have prior experience in caregiving and must understand medical pass protocol.

  • Knowledge of Geriatric care and licensing regulations.
  • Organization skills: must be able to maintain organizational order and efficiency; maintain resident files, employee records, and work area in a tidy and orderly appearance.
  • Mental: must be able to handle stress well, stay calm under pressure; ability to think and make decisions consistent with policies and procedures and licensing regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a team leader and direct supervisor of resident caregivers, ensuring resident needs are met.
  • Distributes medications and assists in the skill training of new resident caregivers.
  • Develops requests for in-service training.
  • Maintains resident charts and keeps other documentation current on facility forms, licensing forms, physician orders, and incident reports.
  • Ensures caregivers carry out their responsibilities on the particular shift and resident needs are met, including bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, oral care, hygiene, skin care, perineum care, and other activities of daily living (ADLs), delivered to residents' highest functional level physically, cognitively, and socially.
  • Assists residents with mobility and transfers according to approved assistance protocols.
  • Assists residents at mealtime and daily recreational activities, including crafts, games, music, exercise, and interaction.
  • Communicates resident status changes with the Administrator and RCC.
  • Ensures all medication documentation is current and correct, including medication administration forms, physician orders, change of dosages, and central medication storage.
  • Coordinates physician and other appointments for the particular shift.
  • Passes medications for the particular shift and reads all “Shift Communication Notes” regarding the facility and residents to be informed of resident conditions, and reports such to the Administrator and RCC.
  • Provides leadership to direct care staff by identifying and communicating resident care priorities.
  • Completes and follows the in-house safety program and ensures compliance with all safety laws (e.g., OSHA, Title 22, Fire Authority, etc.).
  • Understands and promotes the community’s fire and accident prevention, sanitation procedures, and use of fire safety equipment.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
