About The Position

The Shift Leader CN III is a Registered Nurse shift leader in the Emergency Room at Roane Medical Center. This position provides supervisory leadership to staff-level employees and coordinates activities with the department’s Manager. The incumbent is expected to exercise independent judgment and discretion while performing assigned duties. This is a full-time position scheduled for 72 hours per pay period on the night shift.

Requirements

At least three years of professional experience.
Valid license in the State of Tennessee.
CPR certification required.
Education must be sufficient to meet the standards for the required license and/or certification.

Responsibilities

Participates in performance appraisals of staff on the applicable shift.
Participates in the hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Manager.
Prepares documentation for possible disciplinary actions and recommends such actions to the Manager.
Recommends commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate recognition for outstanding employee performance on the applicable shift.
Makes work assignments and directs work activities; coordinates staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
Projects staffing needs for the next two shifts and coordinates staffing-level adjustments as needed.
Serves as a clinical resource for all staff.
Checks the emergency crash cart or confirms that it has been checked.
Provides a shift report to the next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
Participates in making work schedules.
Completes all charge nurse duties specified in nursing policy.
Demonstrates competency in critical skills, including addressing the age-specific needs of the patient population served.
Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards; completes required annual education assignments; works toward goals and objectives; and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Performs other duties as assigned.
