About The Position

The Shift Leader provides supervisory leadership to staff-level employees and coordinates activities with the department’s Manager. The role requires independent judgment and discretion. The Shift Leader also performs charge nurse duties, serves as a clinical resource, and supports patient care and department operations in the Emergency Room at Roane Medical Center.

Requirements

At least three years of professional experience.
Valid license in the State of Tennessee.
CPR certification required.
Must meet the standards for the required license and/or certification.

Responsibilities

Participate in performance appraisals of staff on the applicable shift.
Participate in the hiring process, including providing hiring recommendations to the Manager.
Prepare documentation for possible disciplinary actions and recommend such actions to the Manager.
Recommend commendations, bonuses, or other appropriate recognition for outstanding employee performance to the Manager.
Make work assignments and direct work activities.
Coordinate staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
Project staffing needs for the next two shifts and coordinate staffing adjustments as needed.
Serve as a clinical resource for all staff.
Check the emergency crash cart or ensure that it has been checked.
Provide shift report to the next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
Participate in making work schedules.
Complete charge nurse duties specified in nursing policy.
Demonstrate competency in critical skills, including addressing the age-specific needs of the patient population served.
Follow policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Complete required annual education assignments.
Work toward achieving goals and objectives and participate in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
