About The Position

The Shift Leader Clinical Nurse III provides supervisory leadership to staff-level employees and coordinates activities with the department’s Manager. The role requires independent judgment and discretion. Depending on staffing levels, the incumbent may perform Clinical Nurse II duties. The position is in the Emergency Room at LeConte Medical Center, a 79-bed community hospital in Sevier County and part of Covenant Health.

Requirements

• At least three years of professional experience.
• Valid license in the State of Tennessee.
• CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Participates in performance appraisals of staff on the applicable shift.
• Participates in hiring and provides hiring recommendations to the Manager.
• Prepares documentation for potential disciplinary actions and recommends such actions to the Manager.
• Recommends commendations or other recognition to the Manager for outstanding employee performance on the applicable shift.
• Makes work assignments and directs work activities.
• Coordinates staff relief for meals, breaks, and meetings.
• Projects staffing needs for the next two shifts and coordinates staffing adjustments as needed.
• Serves as a clinical resource for staff.
• Checks the emergency crash cart or confirms that it has been checked.
• Provides a shift report to the next Shift Leader or Charge Nurse.
• Participates in preparing work schedules.
• Completes charge nurse duties specified in nursing policy.
• May perform Clinical Nurse II duties depending on staffing levels.
• Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Completes required annual education assignments.
• Works toward goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
