The Shift Engineer is responsible for the safe and effective monitoring, operation, and maintenance of various facility systems and equipment, including Fire Tube Boilers, Steam Distribution, Water Chillers, Cooling Towers, HVAC, Electrical Power Distribution, Life Safety Systems, Building Automation Systems, Sterilizers, and Freezers. Key aspects of the role include performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance, ensuring the smooth operation and safety of the facility with a safety-focused mindset, and providing support for preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic and pneumatic controls. The engineer will respond to abnormal conditions and emergencies, maintain cleanliness of common areas and equipment, and continuously improve technical expertise. They will also provide recommendations for new system installations, assist in training junior personnel, and offer customer service to campus personnel and patients. Maintaining currency with utility systems, responding to critical system alarms, and performing State-mandated steam engineer duties are also essential functions. The role involves receiving and reporting information to the Control Room Shift Engineer and performing other assigned duties to meet departmental and institutional goals.
