About The Position

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a compassionate and skilled Shelter Medical Veterinary Technician to support our veterinary team in providing exceptional care to animals in need. In this role, you will assist veterinarians with medical treatments, surgeries, diagnostics, radiology, dentistry, laboratory procedures, and client education, while also independently evaluating animals to help determine adoptability and appropriate care plans. Responsibilities include administering treatments and vaccines, performing physical exams and diagnostic testing, assisting with routine and orthopedic surgeries, maintaining accurate medical records, preparing laboratory samples, and ensuring clinic cleanliness and organization. This position also involves following Fear Free handling techniques, supporting euthanasia procedures when necessary, training junior staff, and helping create a safe, compassionate environment for both animals and clients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • Minimum 2 years experience at a veterinary hospital or clinic
  • Must know phlebotomy, immunology, parasitology, endocrinology, and pharmacology
  • Proficiency with safe and humane animal handling skills, TPR, vaccines, medication administration, laboratory procedures, medical math, veterinary terminology, documentation, and medical records
  • Ability to perform medical mathematical equations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Time management skills
  • Able to speak, read and write English
  • Must pass pre-employment drug and background screening to be compliant with DEA requirements for dispensing controlled drugs

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a veterinary technician training program preferred
  • CVT not required
  • Spanish language helpful

Responsibilities

  • Performing advanced technical procedures such as surgical assistance, anesthesia monitoring and support, advanced wound care, bandaging and splinting, dental cleanings and procedures, advanced fluid therapy, and sampling techniques
  • Responding to emergencies and providing critical care support
