About The Position

Community Crisis Services, Inc. (CCSI) has served Prince George's County for over 50 years, providing compassionate crisis support through our hotlines, safe shelter programs, and information and referral services. We are the lead Victim Services Provider for Prince George's County and a leading homeless services provider, operating the county's only non-congregate low-barrier shelter. Our 24/7 services include the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988), crisis hotlines, domestic violence services, emergency shelters, and housing programs. The Shelter Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Shelter Services Program. Responsibilities include supervision of program staff to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency in case management, resident assistance, childcare, facility maintenance and kitchen operations; attending meetings; policy development and implementation; program development; assist with strategic planning; program and budget oversight; planning and networking with other agencies; and resource development, including grant writing. Candidates must be able to participate in and complete mandatory orientation and onboarding requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum education and experience needed to perform the job adequately
  • Candidate may have (but is not required a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or in a related field or equivalent area of study.
  • Work experience of at least five (5) years of successful experience in a senior level Administrative experience, working with low-income individuals and minorities.
  • Must have a strong background of successful grant writing experience.
  • Experience and knowledge working with housing/homeless services and policy is a plus.
  • Master’s degree in social work, preferably with emphasis on macro social work practice.
  • Must have experience in personnel and financial management.
  • Requires effective written and oral communication skills, organizational planning skills, and/or experience.
  • Demonstrates maturity and empathy, consistently providing attentive and courteous service.
  • Ability to motivate and engage clients residing in the facility.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and client population
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English to convey information effectively.
  • Gives full attention to others, asks appropriate questions, and actively listens to ensure understanding.
  • Maintains a positive outlook, rebounds quickly from frustrations, and keeps a friendly demeanor in stressful situations.

  • Must complete a background check, including fingerprinting, in accordance with CCSI policy
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
  • Must complete all required training, including but not limited to: CCSI New Employee Orientation Trauma-Informed Care Crisis Intervention Suicide Prevention (QPR or equivalent) Mandated Reporter Training HIPAA and Confidentiality CPR and First Aid (within 90 days of hire)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience and knowledge working with housing/homeless services and policy is a plus.
  • Master’s degree in social work, preferably with emphasis on macro social work practice.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the review of all program grants, including contracts, regulations, applications, and other pertinent documents.
  • Monitors and evaluates program and staff performance.
  • Conducts regular meetings with program staff.
  • Effectively supervises direct reports, including providing guidance, advice, and counsel on professional development; conducts one-on-one supervisory sessions with direct reports to manage expectations and maximize staff performance.
  • Submits program statistical reports to funding sources and the Board of Directors.
  • Participate in fundraising activities.
  • Attends and participates in all staff meetings, monitoring sessions, community events, and other agency-related business.
  • When instructed, prepare grant proposals and renewals.
  • Conducts research activities.
  • In partnership with the Deputy Director and the Department of Social Services, participates in resource development activities.
  • Makes recommendations for program improvements and pilot programs.
  • Attends pertinent meetings, training, and conferences.
  • Performs effective personnel management, including staff mentoring and annual performance/salary reviews.
  • Conducts program evaluation and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with maintenance staff to coordinate and monitor all facility repairs and maintenance
  • Ensures the safe and efficient operations of the kitchen.
  • Coordinates services and activities related to the Shelter Services Program.
  • Perform duties as assigned to conduct the Agency’s business effectively.
  • Models and actively promotes positive, nurturing interactions between guests in the shelter.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
