About The Position

This position is responsible for operating the Shell Dryer and Membrane Separation along with cleaning and performing general upkeep of the equipment. The role involves ensuring equipment is connected correctly, performing general clean-up, and maintaining the efficient operation of the dryer. The operator will also be responsible for lubricating machinery, performing minor repairs, and assisting mechanics with major repairs. Safety checks on various equipment components are a key part of the role, as is reporting any major problems to the supervisor. Record-keeping and adherence to safety and quality standards, including GMPs, are also essential functions of this position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent and average and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work with and around chemicals safely.
  • Ability to stand on a hard-slippery surface for most of shift.
  • Ability to work in sometimes wet, warm and noisy environment.
  • Must have basic math skills.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to safely lift 50lbs. occasionally.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Free of any breathing or asthmatic conditions, dust and aromatic conditions prevail.
  • Have good mechanical knowledge.
  • Able to work weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Have a basic set of mechanical tools.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure equipment is connected correctly.
  • Perform general clean-up of floors, walls, outside areas, and equipment.
  • Keep the dryer running as efficiently as possible.
  • Keep machinery oiled, greased, and clean.
  • Perform minor repairs and assist mechanics with major repairs.
  • Conduct safety checks on valves, gauges, electrical wiring, motors, belts, etc.
  • Report any major problems to the supervisor.
  • Maintain records and charts.
  • Adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP’s, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure product quality.
  • Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety to management.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
