The role converts engineering drawings, take-off sheets, and CAD files into fabrication-ready programs for CNC laser cutting, punch/laser combination machines, and CNC press brakes. It involves using Amada CAD/CAM and nesting software or equivalent tools, with a focus on tooling selection, nesting optimization, bend sequencing, accuracy, material utilization, and efficient production.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience in sheet metal programming, CAD/CAM, or fabrication-related operations.
  • Proficiency in Amada CAM/nesting software, such as Amada 4iE or AP100, or comparable sheet metal programming software.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical blueprints, structural drawings, and fabrication specifications.
  • Knowledge of CNC laser cutting, punch/laser combination machines, and CNC press brake operations.
  • Understanding of sheet metal geometry, bend allowances, K-factors, and tooling selection.
  • Strong mathematics skills, including algebra, geometry, and material yield calculations.
  • Excellent attention to detail, troubleshooting abilities, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally stand, walk, and reach.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Close visual attention for reviewing engineering drawings and computer screens.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in HVAC equipment manufacturing or industrial sheet metal fabrication.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems for production routing and material management.
  • Experience using SAP.
  • Amada CAD/CAM software training or certification.
  • Experience with CNC program optimization and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Associate degree or technical certification in CAD/CAM, Drafting, Manufacturing Technology, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Convert mechanical blueprints, engineering drawings, take-off sheets, and CAD/DXF files into CNC fabrication programs.
  • Develop and maintain cutting programs, nesting layouts, and bend sequences using Amada 4iE, AP100, or equivalent CAD/CAM software.
  • Select laser configurations, punch tooling, and press brake punches and dies based on material specifications.
  • Calculate and enter dimensions, bend allowances, radii, and material thicknesses.
  • Optimize sheet metal nesting to improve material utilization and minimize scrap.
  • Verify material specifications, including galvanized steel, galvanneal, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Simulate CNC programs to identify collisions, tooling interference, and potential production issues.
  • Troubleshoot programming errors and support first-piece inspections.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production Planning, and shop floor supervisors to support accurate and timely production.
  • Maintain program revisions, tooling libraries, machine parameters, and technical documentation.
  • Support implementation of new Amada equipment, software, and programming processes.
  • Provide technical guidance to machine operators on tooling, setup, and program adjustments.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, material waste, and tooling changeovers.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO standards and established quality procedures.
