About The Position

Modern Niagara is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Foreperson to join their Ottawa team on an evening shift. This role is for a skilled leader who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment and is passionate about safety, productivity, quality workmanship, and team development. Working under the applicable Local 47 union agreement, the Sheet Metal Foreperson will play a key role in planning, coordinating, and overseeing field operations to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards. The Sheet Metal Foreperson leads day-to-day field operations for sheet metal and HVAC installations on construction projects. They are responsible for supervising crews, coordinating work activities, and maintaining project schedules, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. Success in this role means productive crews, strong safety performance, quality fabrication, and successful project delivery. Forepersons are critical to project success, influencing safety outcomes, productivity, workmanship quality, employee development, and client satisfaction. By fostering strong teamwork and accountability on-site, they help Modern Niagara consistently deliver exceptional projects and maintain lasting client relationships.

Requirements

  • Sheet Metal Worker Certificate of Qualification, or relevant experience running a manufacturing shop with similar equipment
  • Proven experience manufacturing crews in a shop environment
  • Strong experience leading a high-volume production team.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to health and safety leadership.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience coordinating labour, materials, and project activities.
  • Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Willingness and ability to our east end shop

Nice To Haves

  • Local 47 union membership.
  • Experience on healthcare, institutional, mission-critical, or large commercial projects.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and construction planning principles.
  • Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, and First Aid certifications.
  • Experience with prefabrication and lean construction practices.
  • Previous experience with workforce planning and apprentice mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise sheet metal crews to achieve project milestones safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain high standards of quality, productivity, and workmanship.
  • Support project schedules through effective planning, coordination, and communication.
  • Champion Modern Niagara's safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety requirements.
  • Build and develop high-performing shop team that contribute to project and regional success.
  • Supervise and coordinate sheet metal crews in a shop environment.
  • Plan daily and weekly work activities to meet project schedules and milestones.
  • Review drawings, manufacturing requirements, and project schedules.
  • Coordinate labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractors as required.
  • Monitor productivity and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
  • Ensure the components being manufactured meet project specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and shop inspections.
  • Enforce health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents.
  • Identify and resolve shop issues proactively.
  • Mentor apprentices and support workforce development.
  • Complete required shop documentation, timesheets, and progress reports.
  • Maintain a positive, respectful, and collaborative work environment.
