SHEET-METAL WORKER, MAINTENANCE Key Responsibilities Set up and operate fabricating machines such as shears, brakes, bending rolls, and punch and drill presses to cut, bend, and straighten sheet metal. Shape metal over anvils, blocks, or forms using hammers and other hand tools. Set up and operate soldering and welding equipment to join sheet metal parts and assemblies. Smooth seams, joints, and burred or rough surfaces using files, portable grinders, or buffers. Install sheet metal assemblies and components in accordance with blueprints, engineering sketches, written instructions, and manuals. Inspect assemblies and installations for conformance with specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers. Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and industry best practices. Provide guidance, training, and work leadership to less-experienced sheet-metal mechanics and helpers. Assist in planning work sequences, selecting appropriate materials, tools, and methods to complete assignments efficiently and to quality standards. Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
