About The Position

The Field Manager uses knowledge and experience in the trade along with management skills to coordinate internal people and external clients to provide a professionally completed, high quality product within the constraints of time and budget. This may include hands on work in the trade. This position requires the same qualifications as a journeyman and crew leader in their perspective trade. The Field Manager will supervise trade specific crew leaders, journeymen, and apprentices. They will coordinate with the Project Manager on project needs, communicate project status, changes and needs, and manage the site safety program. This includes evaluating work sites and workers for safe work practices, anticipating problems, coordinating weekly safety meetings, submitting safety reports and audits, and previewing each work assignment for safety problems. The Field Manager will also monitor subcontractor’s safety programs and interface with clients on a constant basis in a highly professional manner. They will lead and train crews in planning, layout, material management, reading and interpreting technical project information, and in their specific craft. Additionally, they will take-off, order and schedule delivery of materials, and pre-plan job requirements with the project manager, general superintendent, purchasing, fabrication shop and construction supervisor. The Field Manager is expected to participate in the MTech University education process by teaching and/or preparing classes, when needed. They will manage material storage, staging, delivery and security, and provide and schedule delivery of tools necessary to perform work including rentals of specialty tools, unloading equipment, scaffolding, manlifts, etc. This role is responsible for monthly tracking of company assets and submitting tool reports. The Field Manager must read and understand blueprints, CAD drawings, isometrics, equipment specifications, job specifications, equipment submittals, schedules and other construction and equipment related information, and continually collaborate with the CAD department until final coordination drawings are complete. They will work with the prefabrication shop manager in scheduling work as well as looking for new opportunities to utilize the shops. The Field Manager must be able to visualize, anticipate and organize the construction sequence and flow using design information and experience. They will establish personnel rules and expectations and arrange facilities for breaks. They are responsible, with all team members, for assuring that the project is kept within budget and on time, and must understand and know how to read variance reports to manage the project budget. Maintaining a clean, orderly and organized work site is crucial. The Field Manager will coordinate installation with other tradesmen, the General Contractor and the client, and participate in hands-on completion of piping and sheet metal assignments whenever possible. They must maintain a current understanding and knowledge of building codes and regulations governing inspections and construction practices, and coordinate inspections. They will coordinate, schedule and manage system and equipment start-up with internal and external clients, and develop the final turnover package for the client and their maintenance staff, including training where necessary. Keeping and maintaining updated as-builts is also a responsibility. Requirements

  • High school graduate/GED with appropriate 4 year apprenticeship certificate
  • A minimum of 4 years field experience
  • Working knowledge of all relevant national and local codes and company and industry standards.
  • Must possess and maintain licenses that are required in the jurisdictions that you are working.
  • Must be approved to drive per MTech’s driving standards
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills and experience required.
  • Proven abilities in pipefitting, plumbing, and/or sheet metal, service or system functionality experience required.
  • Journeyman supervisory certificate or master service technician designation as necessary.
  • May also require other competency certification as necessary and/or required by MTech, clients or code jurisdiction. Examples are Journeyman certification for Denver City/County, Supervisory certification for Aurora and Master Service Technician for MTech.
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities
