About The Position

Gallo Mechanical is looking for a Sheet Metal Estimator to join our high performing Preconstruction team. As a Sheet Metal Estimator, you are responsible for managing all aspects of developing cost estimates for sheet metal and HVAC ductwork scopes, bidding projects, and other pre-construction related services.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical project documents including drawings, specifications, and SMACNA standards.
  • Proficiency in sheet metal estimating software — Trimble Autobid Sheet Metal, FastDUCT, QuoteSoft, or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu for plan review, takeoff markup, and document management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for cost modeling and estimate summaries.
  • Working knowledge of sheet metal gauges, materials, duct fabrication methods, and field installation practices.
  • Understanding of SMACNA standards for duct construction, pressure classes, and sealing classifications.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment, managing simultaneously occurring bids and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for coordination with clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Reading mechanical drawings, specifications, and requests for proposals to understand the full sheet metal scope of work to bid, including supply, return, exhaust, and specialty duct systems.
  • Performing detailed quantity takeoffs of sheet metal ductwork using Trimble Autobid Sheet Metal, FastDUCT, or equivalent estimating software.
  • Creating detailed cost estimates and high-level scoping of sheet metal and ductwork projects to produce the estimate summary.
  • Monitoring the weekly bid calendar and ensuring timely completion of proposals across multiple concurrent pursuits.
  • Reviewing material takeoffs for completeness and accuracy, including duct gauge, sealing class, insulation, and specialty fittings.
  • Compiling takeoffs, fabrication costs, labor hours, and equipment summaries into the project estimate.
  • Obtaining pricing for specialty sheet metal materials including galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, dampers, louvers, and access doors.
  • Soliciting bids from sheet metal subcontractors, fabricators, and vendors.
  • Reviewing scope of subcontractor and vendor quotes to ensure alignment with project specifications and SMACNA standards.
  • Drafting and finalizing proposals, bid forms, and cost breakouts with clearly documented scope, assumptions, inclusions, and exclusions.
  • Assisting in preparing conceptual budgets from preliminary design documents.
  • Assisting sales teams with procurement strategies for sheet metal scopes.
  • Attending project scope review meetings with clients, mechanical engineers, and GC teams.
  • Turning over all estimating information and cost baselines to the project management team on awarded projects.
