Requirements

  • Registered or eligible to register as a Sheet Metal Apprentice in Nova Scotia.
  • Interest in developing skills in sheet metal installation, fabrication, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings, or willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work at heights with all required safety training completed.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn from experienced tradespeople.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to all site protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in construction, HVAC, welding, roofing, or a related trade.
  • Completion of a pre-apprenticeship or trades foundation program (e.g., NSCC).
  • Experience working on commercial or industrial construction sites.
  • Interest in pursuing Red Seal certification as a Sheet Metal Worker.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the installation, fabrication, and assembly of sheet metal components for commercial, institutional, industrial, and healthcare projects.
  • Support Journeypeople by preparing materials, tools, and equipment required for daily tasks.
  • Read and interpret basic blueprint drawings, shop drawings, and project specifications with guidance.
  • Follow direction from the Project Foreperson and Journeypeople to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Uphold Modern Niagara’s safety protocols and contribute to a strong safety culture on site.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities as skills develop.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.
