About The Position

Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is a multidisciplinary national professional services firm combining legal services, advocacy, and business strategy. The SharePoint Developer will build and maintain custom Microsoft 365 solutions, including SharePoint Framework (SPFx) web parts, Power Platform apps and flows, and API-based integrations that move data between SharePoint and reporting systems. This hands-on development role produces production code, manages CI/CD deployments, and translates business requirements into working software. The role is part of a small development team with broad responsibilities across front-end development, ETL pipelines, migrations, business partnership, and user experience. The successful candidate will move among varied technical assignments while maintaining governance, security, accessibility, and supportability standards. The position works with a hybrid team and follows a schedule requiring in-office work Tuesday through Thursday, with optional remote work on Mondays and Fridays; onsite work up to five days a week may be required as business needs dictate. The schedule may change, so flexibility is required.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience developing on SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365.
  • At least 3 years of production SharePoint Framework development using TypeScript and React; demonstrable code is required.
  • Working proficiency with Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse, including solution-based application lifecycle management.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Graph API and SharePoint REST APIs, including OAuth 2.0 and Entra ID authentication flows.
  • PowerShell scripting experience using the PnP.PowerShell module.
  • Git-based source control and CI/CD pipeline experience using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • At least one completed organizational-scale migration to SharePoint Online.
  • Ability to communicate technical constraints clearly and professionally to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Reliability and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a hybrid remote and in-office team.
  • Flexibility to work onsite up to five days per week as business needs dictate.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Azure development experience with Functions, Logic Apps, Key Vault, Application Insights, and Storage.
  • Python experience for data processing and automation.
  • Power BI data modeling and DAX experience.
  • Experience building or extending Microsoft 365 Copilot declarative agents, or integrating Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Foundry services into business applications.
  • SharePoint Premium (Syntex) content processing experience.
  • Viva Connections dashboard and Adaptive Card Extension experience.
  • Experience in professional services, legal, or another regulated environment with strict confidentiality and ethical-wall requirements.
  • Relevant certifications such as PL-400, PL-600, AZ-204, or MS-102.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and deploy SharePoint Framework web parts, extensions, and Adaptive Card Extensions using TypeScript, React, and Fluent UI.
  • Package and release solutions through Azure DevOps pipelines with automated linting, testing, and security scanning.
  • Maintain and refactor the SPFx codebase, retiring deprecated patterns, unsupported PnP versions, and legacy Fluent UI.
  • Optimize bundle size, rendering performance, and load behavior on modern SharePoint pages.
  • Develop and maintain canvas and model-driven Power Apps, Power Automate cloud flows, and Dataverse tables.
  • Implement Power Platform application lifecycle management, including solution packaging, managed and unmanaged solution discipline, and environment promotion from development through production using pipelines.
  • Build custom connectors when out-of-the-box connectors are insufficient.
  • Instrument flows with error handling, retry logic, and alerting.
  • Develop integrations using Microsoft Graph, SharePoint REST/CSOM, and third-party line-of-business APIs.
  • Build scheduled and event-driven ETL processes using Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Python or PowerShell to move SharePoint and Microsoft 365 data into reporting stores.
  • Produce datasets and semantic models for Power BI and support report authors with reliable, documented data sources.
  • Implement Entra ID app registrations, certificate-based authentication, managed identities, and least-privilege Microsoft Graph permission scoping.
  • Work with site owners across practice groups and administrative departments to gather requirements, propose solutions, and set realistic delivery expectations.
  • Advise site owners on information architecture, metadata, content types, navigation, permissions, and content lifecycle within governance standards.
  • Provide training and documentation so business owners can self-manage day-to-day content.
  • Challenge requests that conflict with governance, security, or maintainability standards and explain the rationale.
  • Execute migration waves from on-premises SharePoint, file shares, and legacy document management platforms into SharePoint Online and OneDrive.
  • Run pre-migration assessments, remediate blockers such as path length, unsupported characters, orphaned permissions, and checked-out files, and validate post-migration integrity.
  • Rebuild classic customizations as supported modern equivalents.
  • Use commercial migration tools, including ShareGate, AvePoint, Metalogix, and SPMT, alongside scripted PowerShell and PnP automation.
  • Produce wireframes and interactive prototypes before writing production code.
  • Design interfaces that meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards and function on mobile devices.
  • Maintain a consistent design system and component library across custom solutions, applying firm branding accurately.
  • Validate designs with users before implementation.
