About The Position

Smithfield is seeking motivated individuals to join their team and grow lasting and meaningful careers. This position works in the distribution area of the plant and is responsible for operating a shag (semi-tractor) truck with hydraulic lifts to move refrigerated trailers and tankers around a warehouse or storage yard. Requirements

  • Valid Class Driver's License.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate a forklift.
  • General mechanical knowledge.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and efficiently and effectively manage time.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours; possibly to work overtime, 6 to 7 days per week during peak times, and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (preferred) and able to work with a diverse workforce.

Responsibilities

  • Using a semi-tractor, move refrigerated trailers and tankers around the plant yard and some to the cold storage warehouse across from the facility.
  • Perform routine light maintenance on equipment (cleanliness, pre-inspection, etc.).
  • Set and monitor unit temperatures according to individual customer requests.
  • Complete shag fee and wash out tickets.
  • Open and close trailers doors and seal (push and pull).
  • Crawl up and down a ladder to and from semi-tractor approximately 25 times or more per hour.
