About The Position

The Student Government Association (SGA) is the official voice of the student body, serving as the link between students, faculty, and administration at High Point University. SGA’s goal is to enhance student experience by promoting involvement and implementing policies that reflect student needs by hearing and advocating on behalf of the students. Specified elected or appointed Executive Cabinet (EC) officers will serve a paid role (up to 20 hours per week) dedicated to representing the student body, executing planning duties, maintaining scheduled office hours, and upholding the standards of High Point University. Officers are required to report on their office hours and activities to the SGA Advisor, or their designee.

Requirements

  • Current HPU student
  • Good standing with the Office of Community Standards
  • Must maintain a professional social media presence
  • Must attend any mandatory meetings or training sessions
  • Must have been elected or appointed to a position with SGA
  • Must have and maintain a 2.7 overall GPA

Responsibilities

  • Representing the student body
  • Executing planning duties
  • Maintaining scheduled office hours
  • Upholding the standards of High Point University
  • Reporting on office hours and activities to the SGA Advisor
  • Planning, preparation, and hosting training sessions and EC meetings (President)
  • Meetings as the official representative for SGA to report on or back to EC, Senate and other EC members (President)
  • Coordinating and compiling the annual report for presentation to the Office of Student Life (President)
  • Supporting and collaborating with Class Officers through regular check-ins to coordinate responsibilities, events, and initiatives (President)
  • Planning, preparation, and hosting of Refresher, Senate and UCAB meetings (Vice President)
  • Compiling, documenting, and presenting relevant information for those meetings (Vice President)
  • Supporting and collaborating with Senators and ad-hoc committees through regular check-ins to coordinate responsibilities, events, and initiatives (Vice President)
  • Tracking, reporting, responding to, and managing all Financial Requests and organizational finances (Treasurer)
  • Meeting with and training SGA members, club advisors, or club treasurers as needed on financial policy and procedures (Treasurer)
  • Reviewing, managing, and preparing all budget and bill submissions (Treasurer)
  • Recording, compiling, and circulation of minutes for all meetings (Secretary)
  • Maintaining up-to-date internal organization records and contacts (Secretary)
  • Communicating timely all announcements, and notifications with all relevant parties (Secretary)
  • Planning and preparation for all EC meetings in collaboration with the President (Chief of Staff)
  • Supporting and collaborating with EC members through regular check-ins to coordinate responsibilities, events, and initiatives (Chief of Staff)
  • Tracking, coordinating, and reviewing documents for organizations who are seeking to be chartered (Chief Justice)
  • Meeting with and preparing organizations for their Student Affairs Committee (SAC) meetings (Chief Justice)
  • Managing and coordinating all aspects of SGA elections, including campaign meetings, candidate submissions, voting processes, and election communications (Attorney General)
  • Acting as the sergeant-at-arms for all Senate meetings and trainings (Attorney General)
