About The Position

The South Dakota Office of the Attorney General and Division of Criminal Investigation has three part-time positions for a Sex Offender Compliance Specialist. This is a temporary, non-benefited position, exempt from civil service. These are remote positions working a maximum of 19 hours a week.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a criminal justice related field and or equivalent experience working with or in law enforcement.
• Expert knowledge of the law enforcement procedures in South Dakota.
• Expert knowledge of all applicable statues in SDCL 22-24B, Sex Offender Registry, 23-5A DNA Samples.
• Valid South Dakota Driver's License or ability to obtain one.
• Ability to work remotely.
• Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships between multiple state and federal law enforcement agencies.
• Exceptional organization and attention to detail in all tasks.
• Treat people courteously and respectfully in high pressure situations.
• Honest, ethical, responsible, and committed behavior both on and off duty.
• Communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to work within a confidential environment.

• Verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete an Employment Eligibility Verification, Form I-9.
• Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation.
• Successful applicant(s) will undergo an abuse and neglect screening.
• Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.

• Possession of a National Career Readiness Certificate is not necessary to be considered.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate information collection for non-compliant sex offenders with the SD State Sex Offender Registry staff, local law enforcement agencies, and the South Dakota U.S. Marshal's office.
• Coordinate DNA collection efforts with sex offenders in accordance to applicable statutes in SDCL 23-5A, DNA Samples.
• Support and collaborate with the Sex Offender Compliance Coordinator.
• Consult with the South Dakota Forensic Laboratory Director regularly to ensure compliance with agency needs, policies, and regulations.
