The role of the Inspector I is to perform inspections, evaluations, and maintenance on the main sewer system for the sanitary sewer districts contracted to Mark Thomas and Company. Requirements

  • 2-5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Achieves the Grade 1 CWEA Collection System Certification within 6 months of hire date
  • Basic knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in construction and maintenance
  • Experienced in the use of hand and power tools, including air compressors, jack hammers, and cement mixers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal skills
  • Ability to read various engineering drawings and specifications
  • Proficient making the basic mathematical calculation in the work area.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to observe and monitor work to determine compliance with prescribed specifications & standards
  • Understands and complies with safety procedures
  • Ability to work & collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities
  • Ability to travel
  • Holds a valid driver’s license in the State of California

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma is preferred. Additional education is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Performs assigned duties and tasks within the sanitary sewer system at a highly efficient level to minimize disruption to the users
  • Ensures that contractors servicing the sanitary sewer system comply with District ordinances, resolutions, and requirements
  • Ensures contractors’ construction methods, equipment, standards, workmanship and quantity and quality of materials meets District plans and specifications
  • Ensures the District is compliant to all applicable laws and regulations as established by relevant Government Agencies
  • Documents all deviations from established standards and filed appropriately and in a timely manner
  • Maintains a customer service attitude & outlook, creating a positive opinion to residents, local business of district services
  • Monitors and services pump and lift stations on a regular schedule
  • Inspects district pipelines and follow up on maintenance recommendations
  • Verifies that construction methods, equipment, standards, workmanship and quantity and quality of materials meet district plans and specifications
  • Coordinates work with contractors to facilitate the installation of stubs, CCTV inspections, channeling manholes and cleaning lines
  • Ensures that the work is compliant with the district’s policy
  • Resolves any problems that surface with contractors
  • Prepares daily reports for the work performed as per the construction plans and drawings
  • Operates necessary and applicable computer programs, including Underground Service Alert (USA) , and responds accordingly
  • Responds to sewer system overflows (SSO’s) in the timeframe established by the supervisor
  • Adhere to work schedules, including defined availability for call back assignments
  • Communicates with the public in a clear, concise, courteous and professional manner
  • Observes all appropriate safety precautions as required by the district including, but not limited to, Cal/OSHA General Industry Safety Orders, the District’s Respiratory Protection Program, and District Safety Directives
