About The Position

The Inspector I position is responsible for in-process inspection, final inspection, control of nonconforming material, and record keeping within the Quality Department. This role requires the ability to read and interpret part prints and air/electric schematics, and to use various inspection equipment. The inspector will visually inspect material and product for defects, compare products against specifications, and document findings. This position also involves identifying and managing nonconforming material and communicating findings to relevant personnel. The role requires the ability to work independently and to complete specific online training related to hazmat laws for cargo tanks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections.
  • Control nonconforming material.
  • Maintain records within the Quality Department.
  • Read and interpret part prints and air/electric schematics.
  • Use inspection equipment such as ultrasonic thickness tester, digital calipers, levels, measuring tape, digital camera, and torque wrenches.
  • Visually inspect material or product for defects like cracks, pits, corrosion, poor finish, incomplete welds, weld splatter, and sharp edges.
  • Inspect and measure various types of material and products from different manufacturing processes (castings, stampings, laser cut blanks, press brake, welding, sub assemblies, electrical components, hydraulics, cables, plating, etc.).
  • Compare product with part prints, schematics, build specifications, quality standards, and approved samples.
  • Document inspections in written and electronic form.
  • Perform all work in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Identify nonconforming material, notify appropriate personnel, and route material.
  • Effectively communicate and document nonconforming material findings.
  • Work with other departments to contain nonconforming material.
  • Complete an online training course reviewing applicable hazmat laws related to the inspection and testing of cargo tanks transporting hazardous materials.
