About The Position

The Set Up Technician is responsible for ensuring that all company policies, including the employee handbook, TS 16949, and ISO 14001 instructions, are followed. This role requires adherence to PPE policies and 5s principles. The technician will set up molds, connect water, air, and hydraulic lines, and verify proper flow and operation. They will also evaluate equipment needed for mold changes, install and adjust head tooling, and analyze and resolve work problems. Additionally, the Set Up Technician will motivate and mentor the team, support their development, strive to achieve targets, and encourage process improvements.

Requirements

  • High school graduate, or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • General knowledge of hand tools.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Team player with a good attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Set Up Technician, ensuring adherence to company policies, TS 16949, and ISO 14001 instructions.
  • Ensure adherence to PPE policy and 5s principles.
  • Set up mold, connect all water, air, and hydraulic lines to the mold, and check all connections for proper flow and operation.
  • Evaluate equipment needed for mold changes, install and adjust head tooling.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems.
  • Motivate and mentor team members to support their ongoing development and strive to achieve targets.
  • Encourage processes to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Consistently demonstrate and incorporate principles of safety for self and others in daily activities.
  • Report all incidents/accidents.
  • Ensure the use of safe procedures and standard work.
  • Inspect equipment and verify everything is operational and in good working order.
  • Understand lockout tagout procedures on all machines.
  • Participate in transition meetings with outgoing/incoming Set up Technicians.
  • Read setup sheets for tooling instructions, such as head tool size, mold positioning, machine parameters, fixtures, and other instructions as required by supervisor.
  • Advise supervisor of needs for head tooling and its related components.
  • Evaluate equipment needed for mold changes, such as die tip heating bands, cleaning supplies, gloves, bolts, anti-seize, etc., and advise supervisor of needs.
  • Generate new and update existing setup sheets as required.
  • Set all machine parameters, such as temperatures, clamp positions, clamp speeds, screw and injection speeds, parison programming, and timer settings according to specified sheets.
  • Set up machines and equipment other than molding machines, such as drill presses, punch presses, cooling racks, and other fixtures.
  • Complete mold changes and/or assist maintenance with repairs when time permits.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of the work center area.
  • Remove molds and fixtures from equipment and work area when scheduled.
  • Complete setup checklist.
  • Set up work center according to established cell layout.
  • Assist in production with processing if no mold changes are scheduled.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist team leader/supervisors in solving problems.
  • Maintain housekeeping throughout the work center and zone, including all fixtures, equipment, and machines.
  • Strive for continuous improvement of setup operations and ways to control problems that cause downtime or rejects.
