About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach SIMU 2000U: Intro to Sim Ops & Clin Learning Environments during the Spring Summer 2026 term. The course is an intensive two-week program running from July 20, 2026, to August 1, 2026. The lecturer will be required to be on-site daily for approximately 8 hours per day at Lakeridge Health Oshawa or Ontario Tech University. The role involves developing, delivering, and coordinating a Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) course that spans university (lecture and lab) and practicum environments. Responsibilities include coordinating WIL practicums, supporting students in real-world learning environments, implementing innovative assessment approaches, and collaborating with the program team on quality improvement. The course description highlights hands-on exposure to healthcare practice through structured shadowing in critical care and perioperative settings, observation of interprofessional teamwork, technology use, and communication practices. Students will connect observations to simulation-based education principles and reinforce experiences through simulation lab sessions. The course culminates in a collaborative simulation project. This position is part of the bargaining unit represented by PSAC.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level.
  • Meets requirements established by partner agencies (e.g. vaccination requirements / criminal reference check).
  • Upon hire, will be required to successfully complete a Criminal Reference Check for the vulnerable sector, an Entry Immunization Form, and general requirements, in order to meet the requirements of our partner agency.

  • Experience with simulation-based education or simulation operations.
  • Familiarity with Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) or CEWIL principles.
  • Experience with competency-based or portfolio-based assessment approaches.
  • Familiarity with competency frameworks (e.g., EPAs or similar models).
  • Experience coordinating placements or working within healthcare environments.
  • Experience in curriculum development, program evaluation, or educational research.
  • Currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

  • PhD preferred (in the health sciences or a related discipline).

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate a theoretically and methodologically sophisticated Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) course that operates across both university (including both lecture and lab components) and practicum environments (e.g. ICU, OR, OB/GYN), with a strong emphasis on structured placements and competency-informed, reflective assessment, as well as assessment of entrustments.
  • Engage in standard instructional delivery.
  • Coordinate WIL practicums (group scheduling, point of contact, practicum liaison).
  • Support students in real-world learning environments (e.g. supporting pre-practicum orientation/expectations, managing and escalating student and logistical concerns).
  • Implement assessment approaches that go beyond traditional grading (e.g., portfolio-based and developmental assessment, assessing student learning artifacts such as systems analyses and reflective assignments).
  • Attend to program quality and continuous improvement alongside the program team.
