About The Position

The Sessional Lecturer will provide instruction to graduate students in the Master’s in Social Media Communication in Online Creators (MSMC) Program within the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities. The primary responsibility is to develop and teach a graduate course that integrates critical perspectives with current industry practice, equipping students to understand and apply emerging technologies in the rapidly evolving creator economy. The course will be delivered using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session. This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC.

Requirements

• A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies
• Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and students
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate/graduate students in a Communication or Media Studies program or equivalent professional experience in the creator/influencer industry
• Demonstrated expertise with emerging technologies and digital platforms relevant to contemporary content creation, such as generative AI, creative automation, immersive media, collaborative production tools, and creator platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google Meets
• Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations
• Excellent organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams, and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely manner
• Evidence of maintaining current knowledge of rapidly evolving technologies and industry practices, with the ability to translate emerging developments into engaging graduate-level learning experiences
• Teaching and/or professional experience in the area of digital content creation and/or the influencer industry is required
• Professional experience using contemporary creative technologies, including generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Midjourney, Runway, Adobe Firefly), visual design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma), video and audio production tools, social media analytics, automation platforms, or comparable technologies
• Experience integrating emerging technologies into professional creative workflows, product development, marketing, media production, or creator practice
• Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.

• Preference will be given to candidates who actively work in or closely collaborate with the creator economy, digital media, technology, entertainment, marketing, gaming, or adjacent creative industries
• Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
