This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach FAH287H5S European Art of the Nineteenth Century at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). The course surveys major developments in European art and architecture from the late eighteenth through the end of the nineteenth century, covering movements such as Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Orientalism, Realism, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, and Symbolism. The course will explore artistic responses to political change, urbanisation, capitalism, colonialism, the Academy, and the Salon, as well as changing constructions of gender, race, class, and national identities through visual media. The estimated course enrolment is 150 students with an estimated TA support of 2. The class schedule is Monday 11 am-1 pm and TUT 1-6 pm. The sessional dates of appointment are from January 11 to April 12, 2027.
