About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach VIS331H1F: Art Criticism. The course focuses on the practice of writing criticism, distinct from academic argumentation or artists' writings, with a history in periodicals, newspapers, and exhibition catalogues. Students will analyze key texts that have shaped art narratives and engage in writing criticism, experimenting with voice, rhetoric, and polemics. The estimated course enrollment is 20 students, with no estimated TA support. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • MA or MFA (or equivalent graduate degree) required
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Strong writing and publishing record in the field of Contemporary Art
  • Applicants may be asked to supply references
