About The Position

This course, CRI3150H F “Special Topics: Open Source Digital Investigative Methods,” focuses on the methods and skills required to gather, analyze, and synthesize digital information from open sources. Open source digital investigators have achieved significant breakthroughs, and many news organizations now employ experts in this field. The course will cover cutting-edge techniques such as geolocation and digital archeology, equipping students with valuable skills for academic research and navigating the digital landscape in a complex world. The estimated enrollment is 25 students, with no TA support. The class schedule is Wednesdays from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. The delivery method is currently in-person but may change based on faculty or department decisions. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or MA in a relevant social science discipline (e.g., criminology, sociology, or political science), or a law degree
  • Relevant professional experience
