About The Position

The Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the VPSB58H3F Video Art course for the Fall 2026 academic session. This course introduces students to the use of video in contemporary art, covering key production and post-production skills such as camera operation, lighting, audio recording, editing, and motion graphics. It also explores the historical development of video art and its contemporary applications by artists. The position involves all standard duties related to teaching a university credit course, including course design, content delivery, assignment development and marking, grade submission, and holding office hours. The instructor will also participate in Studio's exhibitions and guest lecture opportunities and work closely with permanent faculty.

Requirements

  • Teaching experience at the university level
  • Expertise in teaching the fundamentals of video art production including, shooting with camcorders and DSLR cameras, lighting and grip setup, audio recording and mixing, post-production using Adobe Creative Cloud applications, professional output for a range of presentation formats including digital screens and streaming
  • Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary art practices as it relates to video art including conceptual, experimental, performance-based, narrative, and documentary traditions
  • Active practice and strong exhibition history with video as the primary area of focus
