About The Position

GPD Career Course: Skills for Science Communication will help students become better communicators (of their research) and to explore careers in Science Communication. Students will gain a better understanding of how to communicate science effectively to diverse audiences, in diverse mediums and have opportunities to practice these skills through class participation and assignments. The course will build a foundational understanding of the skills needed to be an effective communicator of science and to succeed in a science communication-related career and how to position these skills in applying for jobs. Students will not only hone their own science communication skills in class, they will produce a piece of high-quality work that can be added to their portfolio when having to substantiate their communications skills in job applications.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in biomedical science or a related discipline
  • a minimum of 5 years of experience working in science communications (preferably in an academic setting)
  • experience developing curriculum
  • demonstrated effective teaching in a college or university setting

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience teaching biomedical graduate students is an asset.

Responsibilities
