About The Position

The University of Toronto Faculty of Information is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Fall Term 2026 (September – December) to teach INF2253H - Current Issues in Information Policy. This elective course is open to students in all programs and concentrations and surveys existing and emerging policy topics and controversies related to data and information collection, storage, management, and use by state and non-state actors. It also covers the privatization and platformization of public and private services, the use of generative AI and sensors, and the implications of global information policy frameworks. Topics may vary year to year and include intellectual property, Internet governance, identity in cyberspace, privacy, security and secrecy, e-government, misinformation and disinformation, and the role of professionals in information design and provision. The estimated course enrollment is 35 students, with no TA support anticipated. The lecturer is expected to be located in geographical proximity to the University premises to perform duties on-site.

Requirements

  • Completed, or nearly completed, PhD degree in an area related to the course OR a Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience in an area related to the course
  • Teaching experience is preferred
  • Must be located in geographical proximity to the applicable University premises to attend and perform duties on University premises as of the Starting Date.

Responsibilities
