About The Position

The University of Toronto Faculty of Information is seeking a Sessional Lecturer for the Winter Term 2027 (January 2027 - April 2027) to teach INF2409H: Special Topics in Information: Comparative Information Traditions: Islamic Civilization. This course aims to expose students to the knowledge tradition of Islamic Civilization, exploring its 14-century history, its understanding of knowledge, and its practices related to libraries and books. The course will also examine the historical relationship between Islamic and European knowledge traditions, including cross-pollination and the colonial experience of Muslim societies. The course is expected to have an enrollment of 35 students, with no TA support anticipated. The lecturer must be located in geographical proximity to the University premises to perform duties on-site.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in an area related to the course or a Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience in an area related to the course
  • Must be located in geographical proximity to the applicable University premises in order to attend and perform duties on University premises as of the Starting Date.

  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
