About The Position

The African Studies Centre seeks a Sessional Lecturer to teach the second half of a full-year course, AFR351Y – African Systems of Thought, from January 1, 2027 – April 30, 2027. This course explores a range of African cosmologies, epistemologies, and theologies, examining specific case studies on justice, moral order, and gender relations. The influence of these traditions is also traced in the writings of African thinkers in the Diaspora. The estimated enrolment is 35 students, with no Teaching Assistant. The class schedule is Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The delivery mode is currently in-person but may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.

Requirements

  • Completed Ph.D. in African Studies, Education, African Indigenous Studies, Philosophy, or Decolonial Studies and related disciplines.
  • A scholarly background in African Studies and relevant areas required.
  • Teaching experience required.

  • Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
  • This course will be taught in-person.
  • Duties of this position shall be performed at the campus on which the position is located.
