About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Instructional Assistant (SIA) for the course JRE410H1 F - Markets and Competitive Strategy. The course introduces basic concepts, frameworks, and methodologies for managers in crafting and executing entrepreneurial business strategies in technology-based companies. It covers understanding business environments, competitive positioning, designing and delivering customer value through segmentation, targeting, positioning, product introductions, marketing communications, distribution channels, and pricing. The course also examines challenges related to innovation and industry dynamics, such as industry life cycles, disruptive technologies, product renewal, and the relationship between R&D and commercialization. The estimated course enrollment is 100 students, with 25 students per practical section. The teaching will be synchronous online, with an in-person invigilation of a final exam required. The sessional dates of appointment are May 4 - June 30, 2026. The salary is $54.27/hour.

Requirements

  • PhD or Masters with a strong background in marketing and strategy.
  • Engineering background is an asset.
  • Previous teaching experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Hold weekly case-study analysis sessions for approximately 25 students.
  • Grade assignments, mid-terms, and final assessments.
  • Invigilate the in-person final exam.
  • Assist with the development of case study material for the course.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Coordinate tutorial sessions (Head SIA additional responsibility).
  • Assist with course administration (Head SIA additional responsibility).
